Hi, I’m Jennifer, owner of Agave Dog Haven.
Dogs have been part of my life for more than three decades, not only as companions, but through training, field work, conformation, breeding, handling, and canine education.
My involvement in dog sports began in 1989 with American Field field trials, working with Brittany Spaniels and Llewellin English Setters. I ran open all-age dogs and participated in shoot-to-retrieve and grouse trials. Those early years gave me an appreciation for dogs as individuals, each with their own instincts, abilities, personalities, and ways of learning.
In 1995, I expanded into conformation, focusing primarily on Pointers. Since 1999, I have bred under the Evermore prefix, with an emphasis on preservation, correct structure, and functional ability.
In 1998, I graduated from the Arizona Canine Academy Canine Obedience Trainer and Instructor Course, where I received a formal foundation in obedience training and instruction.
I've continued my education through seminars with respected professionals in canine behavior, training, health, and handling, including Ian Dunbar, Patricia McConnell, Wendy Volhard, Linda Tellington-Jones, George Alston, and Will Alexander.
After a lifetime of working with dogs, one thing has become very clear to me:
There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all dog.
Some dogs thrive on activity and social interaction. Others are happiest with a quieter routine and more individual attention. Some walk confidently into a new environment, while others need time and patience before they feel comfortable.
That's why I created Agave Dog Haven.
I wanted to offer something more personal than a traditional high-volume boarding or daycare environment, a place where I can get to know the dogs staying with me and tailor their experience to their individual needs.
Whether your dog is here for daycare, overnight boarding, or Manners Stay & Train, my goal is to provide appropriate activity, enrichment, structure, rest, and personal attention in a comfortable home-style setting.
My approach to dogs is based on clarity, consistency, and respect for the individual dog.
Training should make life with your dog better.
I particularly enjoy teaching practical skills that translate into everyday life, walking politely on leash, waiting at doors, coming when called, settling quietly, greeting people appropriately, and understanding what is expected around the home.
With Manners Stay & Train, those lessons become part of the dog's normal day. Training doesn't happen only during a formal session; everyday activities become opportunities to practice and reinforce good habits.
The goal isn't to produce a robot.
It's to develop a confident dog with better manners and clearer communication between dog and owner.
When someone leaves a dog with me, I understand the trust that comes with that decision.
Agave Dog Haven is intentionally centered around individualized care. I want to know who your dog is—not simply their name and feeding schedule, but what they enjoy, what makes them uncomfortable, how they communicate, and what helps them feel secure.
Because good care isn't simply giving every dog the same thing.
It's giving each dog what they need.
